UNIV 100 Speaker Request

Thank you for your interest in having us speak to your UNIV 100 class about using and remixing copyrighted media and other content in class assignments. Our presentation, “Music, Images and Media: Student Rights & Responsibilities to Copy,” will cover topics to engage and inform your students, such as understanding “terms of use” by various online services; defining elements that make a work copyrightable; the legal rights one receives when a copyrightable work is created; copying media and images for assignments and to post on websites; evaluating “fair use” criteria; and the “dos and don’ts” of downloading content from the Web. This is a fun, interactive session that includes small group discussion and a competitive verbal game at the end. The presentation will last approximately 40 minutes, with time for questions throughout adding another 5 minutes. The material cannot be presented adequately in less time.

You may request a date (or several options) to fit your schedule, and we will do our best to accommodate your preferences. Please email us at copyright@gmu.edu with the instructor’s name, approximate number of attendees, two dates for consideration, and the time you would like the class to begin, and we will confirm your request as soon as possible. We will meet in your classroom (must have Internet connection, projector, & sound), unless you prefer to meet in the Gateway Library Instruction Room.
